Plans for a new private Boarding School
In 2004 the Trustees of the Themba Trust commissioned research into finding a suitable solution to improve the self-sustainability of the education programme of the organisation. In 2007 the Themba Trust received a grant from the Futura Foundation to pursue the idea of a private boarding school, and in 2009 plans for such a school were completed and an application for registering a private boarding school submitted to the Mpumalanga Department of Education.

The Themba Trust is currently working with the Department of Education to finalise the approval of this application. Pending the approval, the Themba Trust aims to start a new private boarding school with one Grade 8 class in temporary facilities in 2012, until the new campus is ready for use. This school will be named the 'Themba Lutheran College' (TLC) and will be established in the successful tradition of the Lutheran International Schools in Hong Kong and Shanghai , while being inspired by the socially-, and environmentally conscious model of the Salem International College in Germany. However, the Themba Lutheran College will celebrate its roots in Africa through becoming a truly African International School.
As part of its planning and continuing objective to help poor, rural communities, the Themba Trust aims to establish a scholarship fund over time to enable gifted children from disadvantaged homes to attend the new private Themba Lutheran College. Until such time, scholarships will continue to be made available for learners in need to attend Sinethemba Secondary Boarding School.
Fees at the Themba Lutheran College will be comparative to other prestigious private schools in South Africa, since this will be finanically a fully self-sustainable institution. Fees will start slightly lower, since initially not all facilities will be ready, but will increase over time until the complete school campus has been completed.
